New Mexico's gambling is primarily tribal, with 25 tribal gaming facilities operated by 13 different Pueblo, Apache, and Navajo nations across the state. Casinos range from small operations to Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, one of the larger properties in the Southwest. Sports betting became legal through tribal gaming compacts, with several tribes launching sports betting operations in 2022 and 2023. The betting is available at tribal casinos and through tribal apps.

Card rooms — small facilities offering poker and other games — are legal in New Mexico under a separate licensing structure. The lottery has operated since 1996. Horse racing at Ruidoso Downs is a genuine tradition — the track hosts the All American Futurity, one of the richest quarter horse races in the world.

For residents, gambling access depends on location. The Albuquerque metro has multiple tribal casinos nearby. Rural areas outside of established tribal lands have fewer options. Sports betting through tribal apps is available but does not include the full commercial market of operators like DraftKings or FanDuel. Online casino gambling is not legal outside of tribal digital platforms. The market is functional but less open and competitive than states with full commercial sports betting licensing.

Tribal casinos only. Small card rooms legal. Sports betting via tribal compacts.
