Maine has two commercial casinos: Hollywood Casino Hotel and Raceway in Bangor and Oxford Casino in Oxford. Both are relatively modest in size compared to major regional markets. Sports betting launched in November 2022, with mobile betting going live after initial retail-only restrictions were resolved. The lottery has operated since 1974.

Horse racing at the Bangor facility continues under the racino model, where casino revenues subsidize the racing operation. Maine is a small state with limited demand compared to larger markets, but the regulatory framework is functional. The casino market has been stable since Oxford opened in 2012.

For residents, casino access depends heavily on where you live. Southern Maine near Portland has no casino within short range, making a trip to Oxford about an hour away. The Bangor casino serves central and eastern Maine. Mobile sports betting is available statewide, which is the most accessible option for most residents. Online casino gambling is not legal in Maine. Vermont, which has even more limited gambling options, borders to the west.
