Arizona legalized sports betting in April 2021, and the market launched that September in time for the NFL season. The state moved fast and went broad: it licensed over a dozen sportsbooks, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars. Mobile betting is fully legal, meaning you can bet from your phone anywhere in the state. The sports betting law was tied to new tribal gaming compacts, which also expanded what tribal casinos can offer.
Casinos in Arizona are tribal-only. There are no commercial casinos. The Phoenix metro area is well-served, with properties like Talking Stick Resort, Wild Horse Pass, and Desert Diamond within easy driving distance. Rural areas are more limited. The state lottery has operated since 1981 and funds various state programs. Horse racing has a long history here, with Turf Paradise in Phoenix as the primary track.
The practical picture for residents is good if you stick to legal channels. Sports betting on your phone is seamless. A solid tribal casino is usually within an hour's drive if you live in or near a major metro. The one gap is online casino gambling, which remains illegal. You cannot play online slots or table games for real money through a licensed Arizona operator.
Sports betting launched 2021. Tribal casinos only — no commercial casinos. Strong horse racing tradition.
