North Carolina's age of consent is 16. There is no close-in-age exemption in North Carolina law for sexual intercourse. Under North Carolina General Statutes Section 14-27.30, sexual activity with a person under 16 is a felony regardless of the age difference.
Sex education is required in North Carolina schools. Abstinence must be stressed as the preferred choice for unmarried students, but contraception and STI prevention may be discussed. There is no requirement for medical accuracy in the comprehensive sense, no LGBTQ+ inclusion mandate, and no consent education requirement. The framework is abstinence-plus: contraception information is permitted but not the primary focus of instruction.
North Carolina's adult entertainment environment is moderate. Charlotte, Raleigh, and other urban areas have adult entertainment businesses regulated through local licensing and zoning. The state has not pursued aggressive restriction campaigns. There was a notable legal battle over nude dancing regulations that resulted in the state Supreme Court distinguishing between protected expression and regulated conduct.
Sex ed required. Abstinence to be stressed but contraception may be discussed.
